If you are looking to take the step from single pitch to multi-pitch then this course is for you.
During the course we will aim to cover the following:
- Choosing an outdoor multi-pitch climbing venue and selecting suitable routes.
- Identifying hazards and staying safe.
- Building multi-pitch belays and stance management.
- How to get down - Dealing with complex descents.
This is a hands-on course and you can expect to get lots of multi-pitch climbing done.
All our courses are tailor made to your needs, so it doesn’t matter if you are completely new to multi-pitch climbing or already have some knowledge, you’ll definitely learn plenty and grow in confidence and ability. The weather can vary wildly in the UK. So, it is important that we set out wearing the right clothing and that we take the right equipment.
Listed below are all the items of clothing and equipment that we recommend you wear/bring with you on our climbing courses.

Essential Clothing (to be worn/carried)
- Footwear. Please make sure you have suitable footwear for walking into any climbing venues. For venues close to the road, a pair of trainers, trekking or approach shoes will normally suffice. If the venue is further afield or a mountain crag then a lightweight pair of walking boots or a good approach shoe will be better – please ask in advance if you are not sure.
- Legwear. Please make sure your legwear is comfortable and doesn’t restrict your movement – the ability to have free unrestricted leg movement is essential for climbing. Please note, jeans or heavy tracksuit bottoms are not suitable.
- Upper body. Climbing venues can often be exposed and windy so please make sure you bring sufficient layers to keep warm. As with legwear, clothing worn on your upper body should not restrict your movement. We suggest a long-sleeved base layer with a t-shirt and fleece layer as a minimum.
- Jacket. A good warm jacket for belaying in. This can be a fleece jacket or lightweight duvet/insulated jacket.
- Waterproof Jacket. Excellent for keeping the wind out and of course for keeping you dry in showers.
- Waterproof trousers. Recommended but not essential.
- Woolly hat.
- Gloves or mittens.
You may also want to consider a buff, these are great for keeping the neck warm or using as a balaclava to stave off wind and rain.
- Small Rucksack. To carry all your things to the crag in, 30l is adequate.
- Climbing Harness. These are available to hire for a small fee – please enquire.
- Climbing Helmet. Available to hire for a small fee – please enquire.
- Climbing Shoes.
- Personal First Aid Kit. Our instructor will carry a group first aid kit, but we recommend you carry a personal first aid kit which includes suncream, plasters and plaster tape, painkillers etc.
- Mobile Phone.
Food & Drink
- Food. Please make sure you bring a packed lunch and/or some snacks to keep you going throughout the day. Food is not included.
